This was our second Viking River Cruise and it didn’t disappoint. We added the Lake Como 3 Day Pre-Cruise to our itinerary and it was the perfect beginning to a beautiful trip.
Day One we arrived early in the afternoon and walked to Cernobbio. The village has a lovely treelined promenade with plenty of benches to chill and watch the ferries and boats come and go.
We loved Cernobbio it is an extremely clean town with a peaceful vibe. We had lunch at Osteria del Beuc. I had a local fish and Mr. B. had a pasta dish. Both were delicious.
We were looking forward to visiting one of the most luxurious hotels on Lake Como – Villa d’Este – it was once voted ‘best hotel in the world’!
The buildings and the gardens were immaculate and beautiful. If I ever return to Lake Como I’m going to stay one night – we can all dream big right?
Yes, this is a pool on the lake. Villa D’Este was the first hotel to have a floating pool on Como lake. The weather was scorching hot and I was surprised no one was cooling off in the pool.
The hotel also has four restaurants, two are just for light lunches. We made evening reservations for the Grill. Tip: I made the reservation by email that day and the concierge responded in less than 30 minutes. I’m sure you can email at any time to make your own reservation. The Grill is more informal than the Veranda but it was still gorgeous. The restaurant is located under the striped awning in the photo.
This was one photo I snapped and it was just the appetizer. I’d recommend the steak – it’s a dish for two.
Leaving after dinner the gardens were still spectacular even in the dark.
The ferry arrives right at Cernobbio’s shorefront plaza and it is a charming village to stop for a delicious lunch or dinner.
